Although no clear indication is available whether there will be change of guard at the Pradesh Congress Committee, the race for the party chief’s post is hotting up.
The latest to throw his hat is former Deputy Chief Minister in the united AP government C.Damodar Raj Narasimha. The senior Congress leader, who has been lying low for sometime after the recent general elections on Tuesday, made some interesting observations.
“If the high command gives me PCC President’s post, why will I refuse to accept it,” he said wondering whether he was not capable of holding the top post. He said if the Congress party has to improve its prospects in Telangana, the high command’s thinking has to change.
Mr. Narasimha also took a dig at the leadership headed by a dominant caste. “In United Andhra Pradesh, the said caste particularly from Rayalaseema called the shots. Even today they are successful. Why is that the leaders from the same caste hailing from Telangana have failed miserably,” he questioned.
He lamented that the Congress party never considered TRS as an opposition party in the last 10 years. “We always thought TRS is a friendly party and that’s why we have failed. There are a number of well wishers of TRS in our party,” Mr. Narasimha said. He wanted the State Congress leaders to learn a lesson from the leadership qualities of AP Chief Minister Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy.
The senior leader sought to know whether the Congress leaders did not have connection with the ongoing projects in the TRS government. He credited the BJP’s success in the LS polls in State to a positive vote. He said TRS did not have stability and hence encouraged defections.
Many in race
State Congress leaders said there will not be immediate change in the leadership. TPCC president N.Uttam Kumar Reddy, who won recently as MP from Nalgonda, has already completed four years in office. There is no indication yet if the change is inevitable. But, leaders said any change of guard, if at all happens, will take place only after two months.
Once the on going Parliament session gets over and there is clarity on continuation of Rahul Gandhi as the AICC president, only then any plan of succession in Telangana will happen, a senior PCC functionary said.
He said There was a long list of leaders such as Malkajgiri MP A.Revanth Reddy, D. Sridhar Babu, T. Jeevan Reddy, former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former AICC secretary V.Hanumantha Rao and AICC secretary A. Sampath Kumar.
Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy till his outburst against the high command and appreciation of the BJP was in the race to the top post. Time and again he had evinced interest in holding the post.
