New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) If you thought the political discourse this election season hit new lows due to the foul-mouthed words spitted out by the candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections, you must have missed out on the hilarious memes doing the rounds on social media platforms.
The latest target of the meme makers are West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The memes targeting the Trinamool Congress supremo exploded after the "arbitrary" arrest of BJP's West Bengal youth wing leader Priyanka Sharma for allegedly posting a morphed image of Banerjee on social media.
Mimicking the set of a horror movie, one such clip being circulated on Twitter shows how the West Bengal Chief Minister shooes a ghost away by reciting the names of Hindu gods.
Modi was trolled on Twitter this week for his remarks that he had asked the Indian Air Force to carry out the Balakot air strike on February 26 amid adverse weather conditions as his "raw wisdom" said that a cloud blanket would help the Indian fighter planes escape Pakistani radars.
The Twitterati, which include film personalities and politicians, ridiculed the comments and hilarious memes were posted by several of them.
Comedian Kunal Kamra also posted several memes showing the Prime Minister standing with the Game of Thrones' Lannister family, Avengers and the blackhole picture, captioning them: "PM Modi in several timelines giving people the right advice."
Referring to Modi's favourite "How's the Josh?" comment from the Hindi movie "Uri: The Surgical Strike", social media users memed: "How's the PM? High sir".
If Modi is mocked, can Congress President Rahul Gandhi escape the radar of the meme creators?
Often ridiculed for his breaks between work, memes showing him fleeing political rallies have been a source of fun for the internet users.
The memes targeting Bollywood actor Sunny Deol have also refused to subside ever since he joined the BJP.
The most common theme running across these memes mocks the way the actor handled a handpump in one of his popular films, "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha".
"Pakistan is putting extra locks on their handpumps," reads the caption of one such images.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani have been the other stars of the best memes in this political season.
