U.S. Embassy Observes World Press Freedom Day with Conference for Journalists and Students

The U.S. Embassy welcomed 50 journalists and journalism students for a conference on investigative journalism on May 8. Panelists Neloumta Mélodie from Radio FM Liberté and Djimet Wiché, Director of the online publication Alwihda, shared what they learned during a recent training in Burkina Faso, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. Assira Nambatingar from state broadcaster Tele-Chad served as the moderator. Audience member asked questions about topics including the use of sources, fact-checking, and the role of investigative journalism in Chad. In his welcoming remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Richard Bell emphasized the importance of a free press for keeping citizens informed and holding governments accountable.
