Mayawati slams BJP for casting aspersion on alliance

Lucknow, May 8 (IANS) BSP national president Mayawati on Wednesday accused the BJP of ignoring political decorum and casting aspersion on her relationship with her political ally, the Samajwadi party.

Mayawati, while addressing a rally in Azamgarh from where the SP president Akhilesh Yadav is a candidate, said that their relationship was of the marginalized people which aimed at bringing about a social change.

Turning the tables on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent attempts to drive a wedge between her and her alliance partners, Mayawati said that the alliance will not break until it had ousted Prime Minister Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Mayawati urged the people of Azamgarh to ensure historic victory for Akhilesh Yadav and asked her voters to consider her a candidate on the seat.

She also hit out at the BJP's divisive policy by their fielding another Yadav, Bhojpuri star Nirahua, against Akhilesh Yadav.

She described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a fake OBC and said that the people of Purvanchal belonged to the most marginalized region but they should not fall into his trap by false claims because "achche din" are over.

Mayawati also slammed the Congress in the same breath and said that both the national parties were two sides of the same coin and were against reservation for the Dalits and OBC as enshrined in the Constitution.

Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing the rally, claimed the alliance had received tremendous support in all the five phases where polling has taken place till now.

He asked the voters to take away the 'chowki' of the "chowkidar" and appealed to people to rid the country of the "Baba CM" describing him as "thokedar" who openly asks the police to knock down people.

Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh said the crestfallen face and abusive language of the Prime Minister was indication enough that he fears that his good days are over.

The elections in Azamgarh will be held in the sixth phase on May 12.
