Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the BJP is rooting for Bollywood actor Sunny Deol’s victory from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab.
Modi on Sunday shared a picture of himself with actor-politician Sunny Deol and captioned it, "We both agree - Hindustan Zindabad tha, hai aur rahega". The caption was derived from the actor's 2001 film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'. "What struck me about Sunny Deol is his humility and deep passion for a better India," the PM added.
Sunny Deol is best known for the 1997 blockbuster Border, a war movie based on the battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh ruled out the chances of Sunny Deol in Gurdaspur as he has no ground support in the constituency and even termed the actor as a 'filmy fauji.'
He showed his confidence on Sunil Jakhar, the Congress candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat, saying his candidate faces no threat from Deol.
