The following is attributable to Acting Spokesperson Tom Babington:

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green traveled to the Republic of Sénégal March 31- April 2 to lead the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the Inauguration of His Excellency Macky Sall to a second term as President. At the inauguration, Administrator Green met with and congratulated President Sall on his reelection.  President Sall thanked Administrator Green for the United States' partnership in Sénégal, while expressing his eagerness to meet with President Trump.

The Administrator also met with Sénégal's Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne. Administrator Green and the Prime Minister discussed increased partnerships on development programs related to youth and conservation, as well as increased business and commercial engagement between the United States and Sénégal. In addition to leading the delegation, Administrator Green visited the House of Slaves on Gorée Island to pay tribute to the victims of the slave trade that passed through Gorée Island. The Administrator then met with the staff of Adja Ndoumbe Diop Women's Fish Processing Center, a former USAID beneficiary, in Cayar.

The center, run entirely by women, is helping to create sustainable fisheries, while promoting women's empowerment and economic development.  Overfishing, especially by unregulated foreign trawlers, has become a major challenge to Sénégal's long-term prosperity.  The Administrator met with a group of women from the center to discuss their work, the challenges they face, and the issue of deforestation in the region. Administrator Green also met with USAID bilateral and Sahel regional staff to discuss Sénégal's strong progress along its journey to self-reliance, highlighted by impressive economic development and citizen-responsive democratic governance. At a round table with members of the American Chamber of Commerce Sénégal, the Administrator and members of the delegation discussed the business environment in the country, along with ways the United States can engage more in Sénégal's future. Finally, the Administrator met with former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair to discuss increased cooperation and partnership in Africa between USAID and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
