Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS), Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, will be the special guest at the opening ceremony of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Africa Congress in Accra, on Thursday, April 4, at the Accra City Hotel.
The 6th AIPS Africa Congress, which is expected to bring together journalists from over 25 countries, is being hosted by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary celebrations.
A statement signed from the secretariat of AIPS Africa detailed that Mr. Asiamah would give the key note address at the opening ceremony and also officially open it for business.
The opening ceremony will also be attended by the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi and the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah.
The Congress will provide a platform for the crème de crème of sports personalities in the country to discuss and deliberate on the way forward for African sportsmen and women as well as sports development.
Also in attendance, would be Mr. Chuka Momah, a life patron of AIPS Africa, a member of AIPS and former president of Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF).
At least 50 delegates from around Africa would participate in the three-day congress that is expected to be sandwiched with expert presentations and discussions on contemporary issues on sports media, administration and hosting of sporting events.
Among the topics up for discussion are ‘When Will Africa Be Ready to Win The FIFA World Cup?’, ‘How Bold is Africa’s Gold Chase at Tokyo 2020?’, ‘Africa Games and the future’ and ‘The New Sports Journalism in Africa – Finding The Right Mix’.
