5.3-magnitude earthquake hits central Greece


Athens, March 31 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted central Greece on Saturday, the Geodynamic Institute of Athens' National Observatory announced.

No injuries have been reported so far, Xinhua reported, citing Greek national news agency AMNA.

The quake's epicentre was located at a depth of 14 km in the sea area of the Gulf of Corinth near the towns of Galaxidi, Amfissa, Itea and Aigio, about 135 km west of Athens, according to preliminary estimates by Greek seismologists.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre had already given a 5.2 preliminary estimate for the same quake.
