DGCA may slap time cap on Jet advance bookings

New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) may restrict Jet Airways from accepting advance bookings beyond a particular period due to sharp rise in its daily cancellations, sources said.

The Jet Airways Group operates a 123 aircraft fleet. In regulatory filings, it said its nine aircraft were grounded in February over non-repayment of dues to lessors. Another 13 were grounded this month.

Around 50 planes are said to be non-operational due to a host of reasons, including lack of spare parts.

People in the know of the aviation regulator's likely move said around 45 per cent of Jet Airways' total flights are cancelled daily.

The DGCA had taken a similar action against SpiceJet in 2014, when it was on the verge of closure, and had allowed the airline to sell tickets only for travel within a month.

It is learnt that the final decision regarding Jet Airways will be taken after seeking a report from airline.
