New Delhi, March 12 (IANS) A senior officer the Delhi Police on Tuesday rubbished the allegation that he slapped an inspector as false, saying the latter levelled the charge against him to shield himself from action after he misbehaved with two persons, including a policeman, while on duty.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Madhur Verma told IANS Karamveer, a traffic inspector, was reprimanded on Sunday for misbehaving with a person riding a Puducherry vehicle while he was on duty at the Khan Market Circle.
Verma said Karamveer also misbehaved with a police officer in civil clothes who was seated in the same vehicle.
In a complaint filed with Delhi Police Chief Amulya Patnaik on Monday, Karamveer said a car approached the Khan Market Circle from the wrong side. When he intercepted the errant vehicle and questioned the driver, an argument broke out between Karamveer and the two persons riding the car.
"When I threatened to challan them, one of the two replied that he was the DCP's operator. Later, DCP Madhur Verma abused and slapped me," Karamveer alleged in his complaint.
Rubbishing the allegation, Verma said Karamveer's story was false and concocted to avoid the department action he was sure to attract.
"When Karamveer realised that action will be taken against him, he made up a false story. He was also called by the SHO of Tughlak Road police station to know the exact sequence of event.
"Initially no case was filed against him as the DCP (traffic) had assured that the matter will be solved amicably after Karamveer had apologised," Verma said.
He said the police also have an apology letter written by Karamvir in its possession. "Suitable" action will be taken against him, Verma added.
