New Delhi, March 11 (IANS) Since the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Delhi has added nearly 12 lakh more voters to its electoral roll, taking the count to 1.39 crore, which is likely to increase as the window for applying fresh voter cards is still open, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said on Monday.
The number of voters in Delhi has increased from 1.27 crore in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to 1.39 crore in the 2019 general elections. The number of voters at the time of the Assembly election in 2015 was 1.33 crore, he said at a press conference.
Of the 1.39 crore, two lakh voters were added after January 18, when the final electoral roll was published. Till January, 62.35 lakh female, 76.60 lakh male and 687 transgender persons were registered.
Though the final electoral roll has been published, continuous updation will go on and people can file applications in Form-6 up to 10 days before the last date for filing nominations. Names can be added or modified up to the last date for filing nominations, Singh said.
"Applications can be filed online or at voter centres," he added.
Delhi, which has a population of 1.97 crore, will go to the polls for its seven seats on May 12. Both the counting of votes and announcement of the outcome will be done on May 23.
Vote-count wise, North West Delhi is the biggest seat with 23 lakh voters and Chandni Chowk the smallest, with slightly over 15 lakh voters.
The total number of polling stations this year will be 13,186, to be stationed at 2,696 locations. There are 124 locations with more than 10 polling stations.
