In New India, terrorists red eye will be taken out: Assam Minister

Guwahati, March 4 (IANS) Praising Prime Minister Modi's move to retaliate against the Pulwama terror attack, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called for "pulling out the eyes" of the terrorists.

Sarma was addressing a rally at Sadiya in Assam's Tinsukia district. The Minister laid the foundation stone for a bridge over the Kundil river.

"There were terror strikes in our country earlier too. But our forces, despite the capability, were not allowed to act because they were not permitted to use their strength," said Sarma.

"After the Pulwama attack in which 40 BSF jawans were martyred, the Indian Air Force went inside Pakistan, bombed selected location and returned. This is the New India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Sarma.

He said the people need to rally behind the Prime Minister, who is determined to fight against terrorism.

"In new India, no one will cook food using fire wood, no village in the country will be without electricity and the red eye of the terrorists will be taken out if they show it to India," said Sarma while addressing the rally.

Saying that the Prime Minister has brought about a sea change in the country in the last five years, Sarma said while the Central government has completed 5,000 km of roads in the north-east region, the BJP government in the state, too, has done its bit: admissions are free in all colleges, textbooks are free and the hostel fee is waived.

He said the state government has reduced the price of rice from the existing Rs 3 per kg to Re 1 per kg. "We are now considering how to make kerosene and sugar available at cheaper prices through the public distribution system.
