Thiruvananthapuram, March 2 (IANS) Kerala is the first state in the country to create basic infrastructure and amenities for the disabled at tourism centres, thereby setting an example for others, said Minister for Tourism, Kadakampally Surendran, here on Saturday.
Speaking at a function organised to announce new initiatives of the Thenmala Ecotourism Promotion Society (TEPS), he unveiled a Braille Brochure on the attractive spots at Thenmala and a video brochure in sign language.
"So far over 100 tourism centres have been equipped with disabled-friendly facilities. It's the objective of the Tourism Directorate to make all tourism centres disabled-friendly," said Surendran.
The facilities include ramps, wheel-chairs and toilets.
The 16-page Braille Brochure was prepared by the Government School for the Visually Impaired, while the 275-second video brochure in sign language was created with the help of Government VHSS for the Deaf.
These are the first-of-its-kind brochure and video in the tourism sector in the country.
