New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) The Delhi government has deployed 2,153 marshals in DTC buses in 2017-18 and CCTV cameras were installed in 200 buses, according to Delhi's Economic Survey 2018-19 report tabled in the Assembly, here on Saturday.
Tabled by Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia, the report claimed the daily ridership of Delhi Metro is 25 lakh, while on an average 43 lakh plus passenger use DTC and cluster buses in Delhi.
"2,153 marshals were deployed in DTC buses during 2017-18, including 1,600 civil defence marshals, 90 DTC marshals and 463 Home Guards for the safety/security of women passengers."
According to the report, CCTV video surveillance system has been installed in 200 DTC buses.
"The DTC has installed these CCTV cameras with its own resources. The government has decided to install CCTV cameras in all DTC and cluster buses," it said.
The public transport in Delhi has two major components, bus transport and Metro rail.
"These two major transport systems are playing a vital role in facilitating public transport in Delhi. At present, the daily ridership of Delhi Metro is 25 lakh. Daily average passenger ridership on DTC and cluster buses is 43 lakh."
Among the other steps taken for women security, the report said the gender sensitisation programme for bus crew were being conducted by DTC for the safety of women passengers.
