New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS) Union Minister Maneka Gandhi on Tuesday urged female police officers posted with the One Stop Centres (OSC) must be given training in psychology to enable them to help women living in these units, as most of them are victims of violence, in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace.
The Women and Child Development Minister also urged the Home Ministry to improve the strength of the contingent of women officers attached to the OSCs.
"I request psychological training for them so that they don't become as aggressive as men and remain sensitive because they are the last resort for women in OSCs," the Minister said during an event organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the WCD.
On Tuesday, three women-centric initiatives were jointly launched by the WCD and MHA, including safety tool "Panic Button", DNA analysis facilities and Safe City Implementation Monitoring (SCIM).
Gandhi expressed her gratitude towards the MHA saying the Ministry has always been sensitive towards women safety issues. "In so many years of me being in and out of the government, I have never seen a Home Minister who has been so sensitive to the issues of women safety," Gandhi said praising Rajnath Singh.
