Gurugram, Feb 18 (IANS) Facing flak from right-wing Hindu groups, a government girls college here has withdrawn a disciplinary notice to Student Union president Shikha Raghav for taking out a march to protest the Pulwama terror attack that left 49 CRPF troopers dead.
"The students of the Sector 14 college have made us proud. It was a bold decision to support our brave solders. We stand by them. The college principal had unnecessarily issued notice to her and we have condemned it. Now, we have learnt that she has take back the notice," Ritu Raj, media coordinator of Hindu Sena's Haryana unit, said.
Sushila, the principal, had served notice to Raghav as she went against the college's decision in taking out the march on February 15.
Justifying the notice, the principal said: "Raghav was involved in provoking other students to participate in the march from the college gate to the residence of Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh. We served notice to her as she violated college guidelines and went against the decision of council of teaching faculty.
"The march had created a nuisance on the road. There was no planning for the march. It was a sudden decision taken by Raghav herself without informing district administration and traffic police."
The principal said they had already paid homage to the CRPF troopers in the college.
Raghav, however, said that as soon as she heard about the horrifying attack, her "blood was boiling" and she circulated, on the college's WhatsApp group, a message calling students for the march.
"Is it a crime when we students show solidarity with our brave solders. They are sacrificing lives for us on the border and should we not support them," she said.
