Jammu, Feb 16 (IANS) The Army Major who was killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district near the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday died while defusing a landmine, Army said.
Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said, "At about 3 p.m. today during sanitization of a track in Naushera Sector, mines were detected on the track.
"Major Chitresh Singh Bisht, leading a bomb disposal team, defused one of the mines successfully. While neutralizing another mine, the device got activated and the officer suffered grievous injuries and attained martyrdom," said the spokesman.
Major Bisht, 31, belonged to Dehradun in Uttarakhand and is survived by his parents.
"He was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty".
