Dehradun, Feb 15 (IANS) A Kashmiri student, who allegedly made offensive comments on social media, was on Friday suspended by a private university here, officials said.
K. Aysir Rashid, who is pursuing a medical course from Rash Behari Bose Subharti University, has been placed under suspension, the university authorities said.
"We received a message on WhatsApp which read 'Happy today, aaj to chicken dinner ho gaya.' The message has already gone viral. It is natural to link the message to the Pulwama attack," the university Registrar said in a note to Rashid.
The university has ordered an inquiry into the matter and has asked the student to send his clarification on the controversial comment.
Rashid is a first year student of Bachelor of Medical Radio Diagnosis and Imaging Technology at the Ras Behari Bose Subharti University. He has been asked by the university not to enter the campus till further orders.
After posting the comment, Rashid was heavily trolled on social media. A few social organisations and groups even reached the university campus in Dehradun and vandalised some furniture.
After making the controversial remark, Rashid expressed his apology on Facebook. "As u all friend know that i posted a silly post last night ...that was by mistake. i apologise for that what i did," Rashid said in his Facebook post.
When contacted, Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP), law and order, threatened to take legal action against all those making offensive comments against the country. "We may take preventive action also," he said.
