Two injured as fire hits another Brazilian club

Rio de Janeiro, Feb 12 (IANS) Two teenaged footballers were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a blaze at a training ground used by Brazilian club Bangu.

Mattheus Rocha and Diego Casco, both 18, received treatment at the Aeronautica hospital here after the sleeping quarters of the CDA military complex caught fire, Bangu said in a statement on Monday, according to Xinhua news agency.

Casco was discharged on Monday night while Rocha remained hospitalised for precautionary reasons, according to the club.

"(We) inform that the players are not at risk," the statement read, adding that the cause of the fire was being investigated.

Five other players and an official were also treated for smoke inhalation but were not admitted to hospital.

Bangu, who currently play in Brazil's Serie D, are one of Rio's oldest and most traditional teams. The club has competed in the top division several times and finished as Serie A runners-up in 1985.

Monday's incident came just three days after 10 Flamengo youth players died and three others were injured in a fire that ripped through a dormitory at the club's Ninho do Uruba training complex.
