Kolkata, Feb 4 (IANS) JSW Cement, part of the $13 billion JSW Group, on Monday said that it has planned to increase the capacity of its Salboni unit in West Bengal from the present 2.4 million tonne per annum (mtpa) to 3.6 mtpa.
"This capacity addition is in line with the company's commitment to strengthen its presence in eastern India, starting with West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand," the company said in a statement.
The leading cement maker's Zonal Head (East) Gautam Mukhopadhyay said the plan to increase capacity was to reiterate "its customers preference and the growth potential for green cement in east markets".
The company's state head, Jerry Lawrence said: "We are one of the leading Portland Slag Cement (PSC) layers in West Bengal. The capacity expansion of the unit will enable us to cater to the growing demand for PSC in this state."
JSW Cement has invested in wagon tipplers to manage inbound logistics and has also set up a captive power plant in Salboni to achieve better efficiency and uninterrupted power supply.
