The NGO works to improve the literacy skills of children from low-income communities studying in Government schools.As part of the NGO committed volunteers to teach children at Government schools. The NGO is active in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Vijayawada, and Vizag. This academic year they are spreading to Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, and Chennai
The ‘Teach for Change’ movement collaborates with state governments to improve the literacy rates and life skills of primary school children in municipal schools. It was founded by Lakshmi Manchu in 2014 and aims to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 4 is Quality Education).
The programme, already present in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, and Vizag, will now expand to Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, and Lucknow, successfully operating in eight cities. Thousands of committed citizens across cities volunteer to teach children in their neighborhood government schools. With this, the goal of the literacy program is to positively impact 1,50,000 children across 1,000 schools in India.
The well-attended event was attended by prolific names such as Member of Rajya Sabha Smt. Jaya Bachchan, Member of Rajya Sabha Smt. Renuka Chowdhury, Member of Parliament Smt. Moon Moon Sen, Politician Smt. Geeta Reddy, Actor Dr. Mohan Babu, as well as a member from the Indian film and fashion fraternity including Aditi Rao Hydari, Sunil Sethi, Tapsee Pannu, Rakul Preet Singh, Rhea Chakraborty, Regina Cassandra, Sooraj Pancholi, Kubra Sait, amongst others
