Prof K Nageshwar On Rahul’s Minimum Income Guarantee (Video)

Rahul Gandhi promises Minimum Income Guarantee. This seems to be the Congress antidote to Modi government's much hyped kota for Economically Weaker Sections. But, Rahul's promise will remain as an election-eve rhetoric when he fails to substantiate it with a resource plan to finance it.

How will he generate the needed resources to fund such a humongous income guarantee plan? Does the Congress have or has shown political commitment to tax the rich and super rich? Will his Income Guarantee Scheme be an add-on to the existing welfare schemes or replace them? How is his new scheme different from Universal Basic Income debated by Modi regime in the Economic Survey or much talked about Direct Transfer Scheme? If Congress fails to give convincing explanation to such questions it will be an election Jhumla, something the Congress often accused BJP of resorting to.
