Bengaluru, Jan 11 (IANS) A 25-year-old man attempted to commit suicide by jumping on to the rail tracks in front of a moving metro train in Bengaluru, the metro operator said on Friday.
"The passenger fell in front of the metro train at National College Metro Station (in the city centre) at 11.21 a.m, when the train was immediately stopped applying emergency brakes," the Bangalore Metro Rail Corp Ltd (BMRCL) said in a statement.
The man, identified as Venugopal, was rescued and shifted to the state-run National Institute of Mental Health and and Neurosciences.
"The passenger had fallen between the rails because of which he survived. He is recovering and is in stable condition," the statement said.
The metro service was halted for about 40 minutes from 11.21 a.m to 12.08 p.m.
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy rushed to the hospital to inquire about the youth's condition and interacted with him.A
"Chief Minister was informed that Venugopal had failed in one subject of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations and his mother insisted on clearing the paper," a statement from CM's Office later said.
The Chief Minister advised schools, colleges and parents to create a stress-free environment for students.
