Guwahati, Jan 1 (IANS) Assam may soon get another new bridge over the Brahmaputra river.
Minister of State of Railways Rajen Gohain on Tuesday said that the survey for construction of a new bridge over the Brahmaputra near Silghat was nearing completion and added that it can be considered for inclusion in the Budget once the survey was completed.
The Minister was speaking at a ceremonial function for flagging off a new train from Silghat (Assam) to Kolkata, signalling transformation of the middle Assam areas through improved communication.
"The introduction of this new train is another step towards transformation through transportation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The new train consists of 19 new state-of-the-art LHB coaches having modern amenities and facilities," said Gohain.
"Tourists travelling to visit Kaziranga wildlife sanctuary would also be benefited as the train will have stoppages at Amoni and Jakhalabandha, which are located close to the Kaziranga National Park," he said.
The Minister said that a Delhi bound train and a south India bound train will also be considered for introduction from Silghat soon.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bogibeel bridge, India's longest rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting Dhemaji and Dibrugarh town.
