Delhi Metro's Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar section flagged off

New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS) Delhi Metro Pink Line's last section connecting Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar was inaugurated here on Monday, completing the 59-km line.

The 9.7-km stretch was inaugurated by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia via remote control from the Metro Bhawan here.

The section will be operational for public use from 4 p.m. on Monday.

With this, the entire line, except for one station at Trilokpuri, will be operational.

The Delhi Metro opened six new sections in 2018 totalling a length of 96-km, which was termed a "world record" by Delhi Metro Rail Corp Managing Director Mangu Singh at the inauguration ceremony.

Addressing the public, Puri called the feat a "truly great achievement".

He said: "We are progressing in a direction which will help Delhi revive its previous greatness and will make it among the top ranking capitals of the world."

Sisodia called Delhi Metro a "marvel of engineering" and urged people to "salute the civil engineers" who have made the Metro possible.

Apart from Lajpat Nagar, there are five stations on this stretch: Vinobapuri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mayur Vihar-I and Mayur Vihar Pocket-I.

The rest of the line was opened earlier in the year in two phases.

Encircling the busy Ring Road, the line connects far-flung localities such as Shalimar Bagh, Anand Vihar and Sarojini Nagar in north, east and south of Delhi respectively.
