Frosinone (Italy), Dec 26 (IANS) AC Milan was held to a 0-0 away draw by Frosinone in a Serie A matchday 18 contest held at Stadio Benito Stirpe on Wednesday, extending its winless streak to four league matches, and five in all competitions.
Milan missed the efforts of its Spain forward, Jes?s Joaqu?n "Suso" Fern?ndez S?enz de la Torre, while his countryman Samuel Castillejo caused the most headache to Frosinone's defense, as the scoreless drought of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain continued for the seventh Italian league match in a row, reports Efe news.
Higuain, also known by his nickname, El Pipita, only scored five goals this season, netting the last one on October 28, in the Rossoneri's 3-2 home win over Sampdoria.
The 23-year-old Castillejo was the nearest one to get Milan on the scoreboard in the first half on a left-footed fire from inside the area, but with no success, as Frosinone managed to weather the visitors' pressure while still managing to threaten their net.
Hosts' striker Camillo Ciano scored for Frosinone in minute 38, however, the goal was cancelled after getting back to the Video Assistant Referee system due to a previous foul, while Milan's keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced to make three saves, with the last one in second-half stoppage time.
El Pipita squandered another chance before the final whistle as well when his effort from inside the area went high, off an assist from Turkish teammate Hakan Calhanoglu.
Milan, thus, earned its seventh tie in the season, failing to claim a victory in the last four Serie A matches, winning only one game of its last seven league duels, in addition to losing its last match in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage to Greek Olympiacos on Dec. 13.
Fifth-placed Milan (28 points) could fall further in the Serie A standings, pending the final result of Fiorentina-Parma and Sampdoria-Chievo Verona matches.
Meanwhile, Frosinone remained in the 19th and second-to-last place in the table with only 10 points.
