Sonepat, Dec 25 (IANS) West Bengal were the first team to qualify as their Junior Girls, after registering two wins in group A, entered the main draw of the 80th Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships at the DPS Hall here on Tuesday.
West Bengal defeated Gujarat 3-1 first and then outclassed Himachal Pradesh 3-0.
With two rounds having been completed in the section, the other teams to join the two were Uttar Pradesh (group F), Maharashtra A (group G) and North Bengal (group H). But the situation was tight in groups C as Delhi, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka lost their opening round before resurrecting themselves in the second round.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu girls, who began well to beat Kerala 3-0, lost their second round match to Assam 1-3, putting themselves in some sort of trouble. Similarly, Telangana lost to Maharashtra 1-3, Madhya Pradesh to Haryana, also 1-3 and Delhi to Karnataka.
