London, Dec 22 (IANS) Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice on Saturday to help his side earn a 3-1 home victory over Burnley in the match-day 18 of the Premier League.
Burnley was about to open the scoring in the second minute of the match with a counterattack but midfielder Ashley Westwood failed to find the back of the net, while Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart saved a shot from Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles just one minute later, reports Efe news.
Aubameyang opened the scoring for Arsenal 15 minutes into the match with a nice right-foot shot inside the penalty area.
Burnley battled to score the equalizer, but Arsenal managed to have a lead at half-time for the first time in the Premier League this season.
After just three minutes into the second half of the match held at Emirates stadium, Aubameyang struck again, netting the second goal with an accurate shot in the penalty area after a swift counter-attack.
With these two goals, Aubameyang is now the Premier League top scorer with 12 goals, one goal ahead of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
However, Burnley forward Ashley Barnes narrowed the gap in the 63rd minute with the first goal for his side, drilling the ball past Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno after some pinball inside the penalty area of Arsenal.
In the closing minutes of the match, Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi sealed the 3-1 win with the third goal from a close range.
After falling 2-3 to Southampton in the previous match-day, Arsenal got back to the winning track to hold the fifth position with 37 points, while Burnley, which suffered the second straight defeat, remains in the 18th position with 12 points.
