New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday after unrelenting protests by the opposition, creating ruckus over various issues including the demand for a JPC probe into Rafale fighter jets deal.
The lower House, however, managed to conduct a little legislative business in the post-lunch session and passed the long-pending Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill 2016 amid uproar.
As the Bill was passed, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan urged the agitating AIADMK members to return to their seats as their demands were not possible to be fulfilled by her.
"I can't solve it. You have to discuss the issue. Please go back to your seats," Mahajan said but the AIADMK members did not relent.
The Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members, who were also near Speaker's podium, shouted slogans in support of their demands.
The Congress members were demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Rafale deal, while the TDP members were seeking special status for Andhra Pradesh.
As the din continued, Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.
Earlier, in the pre-lunch session also the House witnessed two adjournments as the Congress, AIADMK and the TDP members disrupted the proceedings over their demands.
