New US report on election meddling ‘unfounded’: Kremlin

Moscow, Dec 18 (IANS) A new report prepared for the US Senate Intelligence Committee on alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election in the US is "absolutely unfounded", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

The Russian state, and the Russian government have nothing to do with any meddling, especially with one described so abstractly, the Russian media quoted Peskov as saying, Xinhua news agency reported.

On Monday, two reports prepared for the Senate Intelligence Committee were released.

One was prepared by Oxford University's Computational Propaganda Research Project and network analysis firm Graphica, and the other by researchers from New Knowledge cybersecurity company, Columbia University and Canfield Research Group.

Both reports provide details of alleged use by Russia of various social networks and media platforms with the aim of interfering in the 2016 presidential election in the US.

Peskov said that from what he read in the public domain, "some general complaints, accusations are voiced, some of which are completely incomprehensible to us".
