Mexico City, Dec 17 (IANS) The Mexican Football Federation will announce a new men's national team coach within days, the organisation's president said.
Mexico have been searching for a new head coach since Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio stood down after El Tri's last-16 elimination at this year's World Cup in Russia, reports Xinhua news agency.
"We will be announcing decisions and the signing of a contract by the end of the year or in the first days of January," Mexican federation president Yon de Luisa told reporters late on Sunday.
Argentine Gerardo "Tata" Martino is the favourite to assume the role, which has been filled on an interim basis by Brazilian Ricardo Ferretti since August.
Fifty six-year-old Martino, whose career has included spells in charge of Barcelona and Argentina, is currently without a club, having parted ways with Atlanta United earlier this month.
