Bengaluru, Dec 17 (IANS) Global software major's philanthropic arm Infosys Foundation has contributed Rs 2.2 crore to build amenities like classrooms, toilets and water purifier plants in rural schools in Karnataka, it said on Monday.

"As part of the 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan' (Clean India Mission), the Foundation has aided the construction of classroom building, toilet blocks, bore wells and water purifier plants in five state-run schools in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district," a Foundation statement said.

Mulbagal is located in the mining district of Kolar, about 100 km from here.

The Foundation, led by Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy's wife Sudha Murty, had earlier contributed funds to build schools, road construction and public libraries across the southern state.

Set up in 1996, the philanthropic arm of the IT major has been supporting several programmes on education, rural development and health in the state.
