London, Dec 16 (IANS) Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen scored a late goal to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-0 victory over visiting Burnley in Premier League action at Wembley Stadium.
Tottenham struggled more than expected and seemed to be feeling the effects of their hard-fought 1-1 draw in Champions League action on Tuesday against FC Barcelona, a result that earned the Spurs a ticket to that tournament's knockout stage, reports Efe news.
Eriksen scored in the first minute of second-half stoppage time off an assist by Harry Kane to give the home side their third consecutive Premier League win on Saturday night.
Tottenham (39 points) have assured themselves of at least one more week in the third spot and are currently five points behind provisional leaders Manchester City, who leapfrogged Liverpool by defeating Everton 3-1 earlier Saturday thanks to a brace by Gabriel Jesus and a goal by Raheem Sterling, reports Efe news.
Meanwhile, lowly Burnley suffered their 11th loss of the season and are currently in 17th place with 12 points.
