Shillong, Dec 6 (IANS) Eleven Bangladeshi Hindu nationals, including four minors, were nabbed by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalayas South Garo Hills distinct, the BSF said on Thursday.
An Indian national, Manmohan Majumdar of West Bengal's Cooch Behar district, believed to be a tout, was also arrested.
The Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on Wednesday during checking of vehicles on Hill road National Highway 62 between Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills and Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills, BSF spokesperson U.K.Nayal said.
They claimed they had relatives who lived in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district.
"At present, ahead of the general election in Bangladesh, a tense situation is prevailing in Bangladesh. Under these circumstances, minority community are seemingly feeling insecure in Bangladesh," Nayal said in a statement.
He said these arrested Bangladeshis were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory through unfenced jungle area for further safe passage.
