Bengal BJP protests against attack on party president's convoy

Kolkata, Nov 19 (IANS) The West Bengal BJP leadership on Monday held several rallies across the state to protest against the attack on the party's state president Dilip Ghosh's convoy allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers a day ago.

Rallies were held in south Kolkata's Behala, Mominpore, Howrah district's Kulgachia, Bankura district's Barjora, North 24 Pargana's Uluberia among other places.

Activists of the saffron outfit marched on the streets with banners and placards condemning the attack on the party leader's convoy in Hoogly district's Dunkuni on his way back from a rally on Sunday evening.

Some agitators resorted to a rail blockade in some stations under the south-eastern railway.

Issuing a stern warning to the Trinamool Congress for the attack, Ghosh said the party does not need "Facebook revolutionaries" but leaders who can counter atrocities of the state ruling party on the ground.

"There are a few people in our party who fight on Facebook. BJP does not need the Facebook revolutionaries. We need those who can bring the real revolution," Ghosh said in a public rally on Monday.

"Those who are scared can stay at home. We will hand over the responsibility to someone else. We do not need cowards in our party. They can never bring any change. I am the state party president for three years, so I know who all have the courage to fight from the front. Those who are not worthy will be grabbed by the neck and thrown away," he added.

Five vehicles in Ghosh's convoy was allegedly attacked and damaged by the Trinamool Congress supporters on Sunday when they were coming back from a rally in Mashat in the district. According to the saffron outfit, several party workers and leader Joy Banerjee were injured in the incident.
