Chandigarh, Nov 5 (IANS) Chandigarh's Mayor Davesh Moudgil on Monday asked the city residents to shun Chinese products and fire crackers, and celebrate the Diwali with traditional fervour.
"We will have to refuse not only the fire crackers but also Chinese-made products, especially lighting articles, which will play major role in combating air and noise pollution caused during Diwali. I urge children to also learn about the chemicals present in the fire crackers and the impact of these chemicals on various parts of human body," the mayor said while launching the 'Harit Diwali'campaign on Monday.
The Mayor appealed to people to celebrate a pollution-free Diwali this year. He said everyone should not only contribute to reducing pollution but also promote use local made 'diyas' to celebrate a safe Diwali.
Municipal Commissioner K.K. Yadav said there was scientific logic behind celebrating Diwali with local made 'diyas' and home-made articles for decoration.
