New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) The excitement of the newly built metro line in their neighbourhood was too much of fun for school children of east Delhi's Jaffrabad area, when a horde of them turned up for a joyride at the station and forced the security guards to break a sweat reining them in.
A video which went viral on Thursday night showed about 100-200 school children running helter-skelter inside the metro station, shrieking with joy and passing through the turnstile by jumping over them or sneaking in from beneath.
The security guards were seen struggling hard to control the unexpected crowd and make them fall in line at the turnstiles.
In another video, kids were seen sliding down the railing of the escalator and walking up and down the stopped escalator just for fun.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) said it has asked the CISF guards deployed at the stations to counsel the students to not repeat the acts and keep a vigil at Shiv Vihar, Maujpur, and Jaffrabad stations where incidents of unruliness were reported.
"The videos in circulation show the overjoyed school children on the very first day of opening of new section at Jaffrabad station and inside the train after some schools got over in the noon/evening.
"However, such acts may lead to some untoward incident. The DMRC will be deploying guards to keep a vigil and also counsel them on the dangers of such acts, around school closing time when they come in large numbers, specially at stations like Jaffrabad, Maujpur and Shiv Vihar," it said.
Jaffrabad station lies on the Pink Line section which was opened on Wednesday and connects Trilokpuri and Shiv Vihar. Another section, connecting Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar, was opened earlier this year in two phases on the line which will be 59-km long when fully opertional.
The stretch connecting Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 still remains to be opened. It is likely to be operational in December.
