SC Collegium recommends appointment of chief justices of four HCs

New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) The Supreme court collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice A.P. Sahi, Justice S.K. Seth and Justice Govind Mathur as the Chief Justices of Tripura, Patna, Madhya Pradesh and Allahabad high courts respectively.

The office of the Chief Justice of Tripura, Patna and Madhya Pradesh high courts is likely to fall vacant after incumbent Chief Justices of three high courts whose recommendation for elevation to Supreme Court is cleared by the government.

The Supreme Court collegiums had on October 29 recommended the elevation of Justice Mukesh kumar Rasikbhai Shah, Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Justice Hemant Gupta, chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, and Justice Ajay Rastogi, Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, as judges of the top court.

Besides Justice Shah, Justice Gupta and Justice Rastogi, the collegium has recommended the elevation of Gujarat High Court Chief Justice R. Subhash Reddy as judge of Supreme Court.

The elevation to top court is in order of Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice A.R. Subhash Reddy, Justice Mukesh kumar Rasikbhai Shah, and Justice Ajay Rastogi.

Justice Karol who has been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court is at present functioning as senior most judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Justice A.P. Sahi is the senior-most from Allahabad High Court and has been functioning in that High Court ever since his elevation.

Justice S.K. Seth is the senior-most Judge from Madhya Pradesh High Court and has been functioning in that High Court ever since his elevation.

Justice Govind Mathur, senior-most Judge from Rajasthan High Court, is functioning at present, on transfer, in Allahabad High Court.
