Anti drug-activist’s murder probe: 2 more cops suspended for negligence

New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) Two Delhi policemen, accused of negligence during the investigation into an anti-drug activist's murder case here, were suspended on Saturday, taking the total number of suspensions in the police department in the case to five.

"Based on the findings of a vigilance inquiry into the alleged lapses and negligence by the local police in the murder of Rupesh, New Friends Colony's Station house officer (SHO) Sushil Kumar and Division Officer Rajender are placed under suspension for misconduct and negligence in duty," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said in a statement on Saturday.

Rupesh, who had been fighting drug smugglers and local criminals in south Delhi's Taimoor Nagar, was gunned down by two suspected smugglers who came to buy drugs near his residence on Sunday night around 9 p.m.

Earlier, beat officers Ajay, Surender and Hari Chand were placed under suspension on similar grounds.

"A regular departmental inquiry has been initiated against all of them," said Biswal.
