550 kg cannabis seized in Guwahati, two arrested

Kolkata, Oct 5 (IANS) About 550 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 55 lakh was seized from Guwahati and two persons were arrested, an official said on Friday.

"Acting on a tip-off, officers of Guwahati Zonal Unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a vehicle and seized the contraband on the Khanapara- Beltola road on Thursday afternoon," the official said.

Manik Sarkar and Goutam Debnath were arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Efforts are on to nab the mastermind who handles the racket, the DRI official said.
