Exhibition shows ‘dynamism’ in art by celebrated artists

New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) Recent works of celebrated Indian artists find space at Lalit Kala Akademi here at an exhibition that showcases what curator Sunaina Anand calls "dynamism" in art practice.

Titled "Art Now'18", the exhibition opened on Thursday, and displays artworks by a number of most-collected Indian artists.

On view is art by Krishen Khanna, Sakti Burman, Raghu Rai, Satish Gujral, Anjolie Ela Menon, Manu and Madhavi Parekh, Jatin Das and Thoda Vaikuntam, among others.

The show starts with artist Jayasri Burman's "Vyaghra" and "Dharitri", and takes the viewers through the recent art practice of the most well-known Indian artists.

A special photo-sculpture section by noted photographer Rohit Chawla captures veteran artists like Ram Kumar, S.H. Raza and Akbar Padamsee, among others, in their studios.

Another photo series by Raghu Rai captures the eminent photographer in disparate places with traces of himself in his works.

The show also has Paresh Maity's well-known canvas "Dandi March", mounted with bowls of salt kept underneath, displayed.

"The show has these celebrated artists revisiting their art practice after years. For instance, Anjolie Ela Menon has already done her famous 'Mother and Child' painting years ago, but in this new rendition, you'll find something new," curator Sunaina Anand told IANS.

"In whole, this show is about the art now -- the dynamism in art practice of artists whose styles we know," she added.

The exhibition concludes on October 4. It will also be open for public till October 26 at Art Alive Gallery here.
