Asuncion (Paraguay), Sep 19 (IANS) South America's football federation (Conmebol) has confirmed the venues for the 2019 Copa America in Brazil, with Sao Paulo's Morumbi Stadium and Rio de Janeiro's emblematic Maracana Stadium to serve as the sites for the opening match and the final, respectively.
The federation said here on Tuesday that the Conmebol council had approved the stadiums proposal submitted the day before by Brazil's Copa America organizing committee, reports Efe news.
The matches of the 46th edition of that international tournament, which will determine the continental champion of South America, will be played in five cities and six stadiums.
The semi-finals will be played at the Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre and Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.
The 10 countries that make up Conmebol (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) and two invited teams - Qatar, host of the 2022 World Cup; and Japan - will take part in next year's Copa America, whose matches will be played in Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo.
