Exhibition on ‘India’s national fabric’ Khadi opens

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) An exhibition of memorabilia related to Khadi, archival and personal photographs, prints, postcards, calendar art, charkhas and examples of what curator Sunaina Suneja terms "India's national fabric" from the past and present, is on view at the India International Centre (IIC) here.

Suneja said the exhibition, "Azadi Ki Khadi: Fabric of Freedom", is a "culmination" of her multifaceted experiences with Khadi from 1980s.

Suneja, whose engagement with Khadi began with a read of Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography "My Experiments With Truth", said the exhibition comes as a gratitude to the Father of the Nation.

It comprises of archival photographs representative of the mass appeal of khadi during the freedom struggle and its wearing as a symbol of protest, she said in her curatorial note.

Also on display are photographs of spinning activities taken in recent years in villages she visited, and memorabilia she collected.

Inaugurated on Tuesday by Textiles Secretary Raghvendra Singh, the exhibition will continue till September 25.
