Delhi Police officer’s son charged in rape-assault cases, detained

New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) A 21-year-old son of a Delhi Police officer was detained here on Friday after cases of rape and assault were filed against him by two women.

The accused, Rohit Tomar, is the son of Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Singh Tomar, currently posted in central Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Monika Bhardwaj said that the accused's 20-year-old girlfriend had on Tuesday complained about receiving threats from him.

"On Thursday, the same girl came to us to complain that she has been molested by him, and an FIR (First Information Report) was lodged."

"We have detained him for a day. He is being interrogated. The victim's statement is being recorded in court," Bhardwaj said, adding a case of rape was registered against Rohit Tomar in Dwarka.

Earlier a video showing a girl being violently beaten up by Rohit Tomar in Dwarka's Uttam Nagar had gone viral on the social media.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka, Sanjeev Sharma said: "This woman today (Friday) lodged a complaint alleging that she was also raped by him," he said.
