Brace up for air pollution in winter, Delhi L-G tells officials

New Delhi, Aug 13 (IANS) Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday directed officials of various government agencies to brace up to contain air pollution and smog in the city in winter.

Baijal held a meeting at the Raj Niwas here to review the progress in improvement work related to the Anand Vihar ISBT area, air pollution status in Jhilmil, Sahibabad and Ghaziabad industrial areas and the waste disposal problem in the Narela and Bawana industrial areas.

He also directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to expedite the process of shifting to non-polluting fuel in industrial areas by September 30.

During the meeting, he also reviewed the 'action-taken points' of the previous meeting held in May.

The DPCC representative made a detailed presentation on traffic congestion and sanitation and hygiene at the meeting.

Baijal was told that 1,000 saplings have been planted in the vacant areas at Anand Vihar as part of the anti-pollution measures.
