New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday said that the burning of a copy of the Constitution of India here was done at the behest of those in power at the Centre.
In a tweet in Hindi, the senior Aam Aadmi Party leader said: "The copy of the Constitution burnt at a place (Jantar Mantar) that is used as a platform by the people to raise their voices to protect the Constitution. Those involved in the crime are moving freely. The message is clear -- the incident took place on the instructions of those in power at the Centre."
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called the Thursday's incident "shocking".
"Absolutely shocking that the Constitution of India is burnt at the Jantar Mantar in police presence and no action is taken. Is the BJP government in collusion?" Kejriwal tweeted.
In a video clipping of the incident, members of a group are seen protesting on the Parliament Street here during which they burned the copy of the Constitution and raised slogans against Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar, considered the Father of the Indian Constitution, and certain communities.
Delhi Police on Friday registered a case against Youth for Equality organisation regarding the crime.
