New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking door-to-door delivery of ration items in the slum areas of Delhi. The PIL cited the recent starvation death of three children of a family in the city.
The petitioner, Maneesh Pathak, sought a direction to the Delhi government for framing guidelines or policy so that minor children of poor or marginalized slum-dwelling section of the society may receive adequate food along with clean drinking water.
The Delhi government should collect data of all poor slum-dwelling families with minor children to ensure that kids get adequate nutrition.
"It is the duty and responsibility of the State to safeguard and protect each individual, poor or affluent, from any infringement of their fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 14 and Article 21 of the Constitution," the plea said.
