Afghan national arrested in Delhi for drug-peddling

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) A 36-year-old Afghan national has been arrested here for his involvement in drug-peddling in the city, police said on Friday.

An international drug syndicate was busted with his arrest as he informed police about the man who got him involved in the illegal business of drugs.

According to police, two more men have been identified and the operation to nab them is underway.

Mohammad Nadir Khadim, who is originally from Afghanistan, was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on July 24 from Bhagat Singh Park, Malviya Nagar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime, Rajiv Ranjan said.

The police officer said 2 kilos of heroin valued at Rs 4 crore was seized from his possession.

He was staying in a rented accommodation at Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar here. The accused told police that he used to visit India for treatment of Hepatitis B on medical visa.

He first visited India in 2016, and then in February 2018. Recently, he came to India on June 21.

About 15 days ago, he came in contact with a fellow Afghani, Mustafa, who is involved in smuggling heroin from Afghanistan and selling it in Delhi, Ranjan said.

Khadim said Mustafa, who resides in Lajpat Nagar, lured him to this trade to make easy money and meet the huge expense of his treatment.
