New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Friday inaugurated 13 digital Malkhanas from south Delhi's Sarita Vihar police station.

With this, south-east district has become the first district in the country where all police stations have the facility to preserve seizures of the cases apart from postmortem and viscera reports in digital format.

"Malkhana management was a complex issue. Now, E-Malkhanas with modern technology will make things easy. It is a revolutionary step," Patnaik said.

Officials said one Malkhana can preserve 24,000 case properties in digital formet with bar code and software. This will allow search with just one click.

A pilot project to digitize three police stations of the district began in December 2017, later in March, 2018, Delhi Police decided to develop E-malkhana of all 13 police stations of south-east district.

Patnaik said: "The innovative system consists of both software and physical upgrade of Malkhanas. Details of the case property are first entered into the software, followed by uploading of its photograph. The case property is packed in a cardboard box to prevent damage, and a unique bar code is generated which is pasted on the box."

"This makes location of the case property easier. The software also allows visual details of any case property at the simple click of a button," Patnaik added.
