BSF ‘divyang’ will pedal through Himalayas

Shimla, July 30 (IANS) At least 40 'divyang', comprising mainly Border Security Force (BSF) personnel who suffered disability in various operations, will participate in a 10-day 700-km bicycle expedition next month, pedalling through cold deserts of Himachal Pradesh, the BSF said on Monday.

The expedition, which will be flagged off at the state capital on August 5, will also have members of the Aditya Mehta Foundation, an NGO working for empowering the 'divyang.'

They will ride through Narkanda, Kalpa, Pooh, Nako, Kaza, Losar, Chhatru and Rohtang Pass and reach Manali on August 15, BSF Deputy Inspector General Harbax Singh Dhillion said in a statement.

He said the BSF personnel include those who were injured and disabled in action against anti-national elements.

Their message will be: 'Mushkil Faasla Buland Honsla' (difficult terrain, brave determination). They will also project a positive attitude of living a healthy normal life contributing to betterment of society.

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju is expected to attend the expedition's concluding ceremony.
